Our Virtual Integrated Behavioral Health team collaborates with outpatient providers to support patients' mental and physical health, screen and assess for mental health and substance use disorders, facilitate engagement and follow-up care, and develop relapse prevention plans. We use evidence-based interventions and consult with psychiatric specialists to ensure comprehensive care.

Position Overview:
The Senior MSW will effectively communicate and collaborate with all members of the healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, timely, and comprehensive services. You will interpret complex patient and family needs, role model caring practices, and assess psychosocial risk factors based on prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness.
You will provide mental health assessments, therapeutic interventions, and support complex discharge planning. Additionally, you will serve as a point person for cases involving abuse, neglect, guardianship, foster care, and mental health placements. Your leadership will be essential in managing high-risk situations using de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate safe and effective patient care.
- Assess psychosocial factors and counsel patients/families on emotional, social, and financial impacts.
- Access and coordinate community and family resources, including protective services, foster care, guardianship, and community support.
- Conduct mental health assessments upon physician referral and provide therapeutic interventions.
- Facilitate complex discharge planning and support patients in crisis or dangerous situations.
- Lead clinical interventions during acute crises, utilizing de-escalation techniques to prevent violence.
- Serve as a liaison between IU Health and community protective teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation and manage all functions related to utilization review and care coordination.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Master's Degree in Social Work required.
- Licensure: Permanent LSW licensure required; LCSW licensure preferred.
- Certifications: De-escalation certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Experience: 3-5 years preferred in mental health, child and family services, adult protective services, Veteran's Administration, or substance abuse.
- Additional Skills & Knowledge:
- Experience working with diverse patient populations, geographically and financially.
- Knowledge of disease impact and human behavior for assessments and crisis intervention.
- Familiarity with state and county legal mandates related to protective services.
- Principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Strong crisis de-escalation and interviewing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
