Crisis Clinician - Full Time, 10AM-6PM, Overlook Medical Center
Job Description
Description: The Crisis Clinician at Overlook Medical Center supports patients with behavioral health needs in the emergency department and the Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment and Healing (EmPATH) unit. The position completes focused crisis triage reviews, initial crisis evaluations, risk and suicide assessments, concurrent assessments with identified treatment targets, individual interventions and facilitates group interventions on the EmPATH unit. The position operates as part of an interdisciplinary team to formulate and execute treatment directives for patients, collaborating with psychiatry, nursing, medicine and peer specialists.
Job Functions:
01. Provide Emergency Crisis Intervention Services including:
a. Patient Assessment & Counseling, complete initial clinical and risk assessments for co-occurring, psychiatric and somatic presentations.
b. Formulate provisional dispositions and clinical assessments referencing clinical evidentiary findings to support initial clinical summations.
c. Completing assessments for substance use concerns and withdrawal, identifying symptoms, patterns and risks
d. Complete de-escalation interventions with patients independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
e. Conduct precise and succinct clinical summaries with psychiatric providers as part of a clinical case presentation
f. Formulate clinical dispositions and after-care plans, assisting patients in navigating the system care and securing needed clinical appointments
g. Complete re-assessments and ongoing clinical interventions for identified treatment targets
02. Patient Management: Conduct clinical interventions for patients awaiting placement for either a voluntary or involuntary psychiatric admission. Complete and manage all required legal documentation for involuntary and pediatric psychiatric admissions.
03. Documentation:
a. Complete initial crisis evaluations, risk assessments, safety plans and clinical re-evaluation assessments as consistent with the standards and policies of the department, administrative codes and state agency requirements.
b. Documentation is precise, accurate, and meets the standards of the Cures Act.
c. Completed consistently within the required timeframes as noted in departmental policy and guidelines
e. Manages and completes all required departmental reporting documentation and data collection processes.
f. Complete all group sessions documentation and charging requirements as consistent with departmental policy and guidelines
g. Finalizes aftercare plans and reviews with patients and families prior to discharge as needed.
04. Pre-Certification: Complete all required insurance authorizations and follow-up as needed to obtain coverage for the needed level of care.
05. Family Intervention:
a. Complete collateral information gathering and analysis when clinically indicated.
b. Provide family intervention, support and psychoeducation pertaining to the system of care, psychiatric admission, involuntary process and aftercare planning.
06. Interdisciplinary Professionalism:
a. Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary care team including, nursing, psychiatric providers, social work, medical providers, mental health assistants and peer specialists.
b. Maintain professional relationships with external professional agencies involved in the patients care
c. Participate in short-term treatment goal planning and aftercare treatment plans.
07. Quality: Actively contribute and assist in the completion of departmental quality and safety initiatives:
08. Education: Complete assigned departmental competencies and continuing education requirements as assigned and within the timeframe required.
09. De-escalation:
a. Assist with and conduct de-escalation interventions for patients as requested and/or clinically indicated in the emergency department, EmPATH Unit and the medical floors
b. Perform as part of a interdisciplinary Behavioral Emergency Response Team (BERT) within the emergency department, medical floors and EmPATH Unit when requested.
c. Participate in debriefings and reviews post-intervention as requested.
10.. Patient care: Operate as part of an interdisciplinary team in the emergency department providing direct patient interventions and clinical care in a dedicated Crisis space.
11. Service Line Support: Assist and complete assessments, authorizations and discharge planning for additional Crisis sites remotely as requested
Other responsibilities may be assigned based on need of the department

Qualifications
Required:
1. Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related filed.
2. One year of Crisis or emergency room mental health experience
Preferred:
1. LCSW or LPC, LSW or LAC
