Summary

This Psychologist is assigned professionally to the General Mental Health Section of the Psychology Service of the Phoenix VA Health Care System at the outpatient mental health clinic but may also include after-care and post-hospitalization clinical duties. It requires familiarity with a recovery orientation to the care and treatment of substance abuse - mental illness - and knowledge of evidence-based psychotherapies and techniques applicable to this setting.

  • Clinical services include primary care - mental health - laboratory services - specialty and ancillary services
  • Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Providing a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders - particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients with psychiatric disorders
  • Providing education to patients - family members - and significant others
  • The psychologist will provide comprehensive - evidence-based psychotherapeutic EBP) interventions as described below: Within the Outpatient Mental Health setting - the psychologist will provide full-scale assessment and full-scale individual and group therapy using protocols such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for Depression and Insomnia - Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) - Prolonged Exposure (PE) - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - Interpersonal Therapy for Depression (IPT) - and/or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Providing consultation to professional staff within Phoenix VAMC or Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and to community providers - concerning clinical assessment findings and appropriate treatment plans for patients
  • Assisting the Psychology Section Chief in the design - development - and implementation of clinical programs
  • Adhering to operational policies and procedures for health care as directed by the Medical Center and Psychology Department management
  • Assisting the Psychology Section Chief in the execution of ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical program
  • Overseeing the establishment of program monitors and outcome and other local data source measurements if/when these become required for clinical performance and other outcome assessment or best practices guidelines - using a data-driven quality assurance process
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 7:30 a.m
