Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
Duties
- This position is located in the Mental Health Care Line - VA Hudson Valley Health Care System
- The VA Hudson Valley Health Care System offers a full range of acute and chronic care services for veterans residing in six adjacent counties - including - Dutchess - Westchester - Putnam - Orange - Rockland and Sullivan serving over 400 -000 Veterans
- Services include - but are not limited to medicine - surgery - psychiatry - rehabilitative medicine - long term care - women's health - blind rehabilitation - mental health - substance abuse - PTSD - and services for the seriously mental ill and nursing home care
- There are numerous specialty clinics and laboratories
- The work of this position is highly complex - involving a combination of mental health administrative skills and intensive clinical services both of which require the exercise of mature professional judgement and the flexible use of a wide range of professional abilities
- Workflow is often irregular and routinely requires independent initiative as well as timely responses to both clinical and administrative inquiries and events
- The role also commonly involves development and implementation of programs - guidelines - and strategies

- The incumbent is extensively engaged with both internal and external stakeholders and must possess excellent communication skills as well as strong abilities to develop and maintain collaborative relationships at all levels.The SPC provides clinical services in serious and complicated cases and carries full professional responsibility for cases presenting with a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems
- The incumbent possesses advanced knowledge and skills regarding psychiatric diagnosis - intervention - and behavioral health
- and consistently applies these in practice to a full range of Veteran problems in the work setting
- The SPC is the local subject-matter expert for suicide and its sequela and is frequently called-upon to provide advice and consultation to professionals (both clinical and non-clinical) representing a variety of backgrounds and interests
